jwr, it looks like Autofrost is making Freeze 12. However,as the Link in my previous post below, they officially publish the data clearly showing that Freeze12 is very different from R12 and does not mix with Compressor Oil. They further warn that (excerpt) "If the refrigerant/oil combination is immiscible (not miscible), then the oil floats in a layer on top of the refrigerant. In a real system, with the oil and refrigerant combination
not miscible in each other, may result in the oil being "trapped" in the evaporator, thus starving the compressor for oil and failing the compressor." In addition, Freeze12 has been EPA approved (Link:http://www.tandaserve.com/aam/articles/article_02.asp) and R12 is much more expensibe. So, there is no reason to belive that R12 and Freeze12 are the same. The Link below tells "Atmospheric Lifetime", "Ozone Depletion " and "Global Warning" potential values for those fluorocarbon ("Freon")products, incuding R12 and R134. Like Anders said, R134 is definitly a choice.
