I had it with the slow seeping of PS fluid from a pump that I thought I'd fixed. It was coming from where I'd already applied JB Weld some weeks back. A very slow seeping compared with the out and out drip drip before the fix, a seeping I could have lived with, but it was frustrating to know my repair work wasn't entirely successful. So I took the pump I replaced and set it up on the bench for a look over. For the first time I took notice of the low profile hex head bolt about midway up the body on the same side as the in/out fitting connections. An 18mm head. Perhaps that bolt is what keeps the two parts (the inner pump and the outer casing) together. So I found a way to lock it in a vice without crushing the housing and took to the bolt head. Sure enough, it loosened. After removing it, the two pieces remained locked in place. Hmm, well what about the other hex head fittings? One is at the very base of the bolt used to connect to the pump bracket. The other is the large hex in which the large pressure hose screws in with a fitting. The bolt hex was also 18mm and the larger fitting hex is 24mm. Both were unscrewed and then the two halves of the pump seperated! The inner pump unit has an O ring that fits in a slot around where the two parts meet. There was also a thin layer of blue silicone along with the O ring. Appearently all the pump (both pumps actually) needed was to reapply some silicone sealant. So I removed the old sealant, cleaned up the mating surfaces using acetone and rejoined the two halves with new Permatex Ultra Blue silicone applied. All bolts good and tight. I even repainted the scratched up pump to it's shiny black. I'll know tomorrow if the sealant did it's job and I'll finally have a leak free PS pump!
