In rersponse to earlier headliner question for 900's.
Sorry about the lenght of this respnse. If your car is a hatchback it is very easy to replace and very inexpensive.I have replaced more than 10 headliners.Paid $275 the first time then did it better myself.Items required: 2 to 3 hours, 4 yards material, 1 large can of 3M Clear adheasive glue,a large and small Bondo type plastic spreader,a sharp exacto knife and scissors.
2 options you can go to a headliner website and buy a kit for $65 and take the chance of screwing up and wasting the fabric...or you can go to your local fabric store (JoAnne Fabrics carries most colors and they have online 50% off coupons that bring your material cost to $22 for all you need) with all the women and get standard automotive headliner material (4 yards will complete the headbord, sunroof and rear qtr panels....most carry various colors to get close to what you want. Next get 3M clear adhesive glue at Walmarts for $9 large can (1 cann is all you need).
Remove all interior applicable hardware/light assemblys/sunroof rubber retainer strip (note that when you remove the rear seatbelt screws to remove the quarter panels, hold the belts in the extended position so they don't close)after removing the screw, remove the panel and replace the screw, do this on each side.Alot simplier than it sounds.
After removing the qtr panels open that hatch, pull the rear part of the board down from the rubber sleeve and then slide the headboard to the rear for removal..be careful with the portion above the front seatbelt area...they commonly are thin or in bad shape...if so when you get it out rebuild with sturdy cardboard/masking tape (if you use duct tape the glue won't adhere).Lightly brush/peel remainning fabric and don't abuse the foarm board surface. Now it's easy, simply place the board on the floor (make sure you have the correct side up and the right side of the fabric) on a protected area (glue overspray sucks)use clips or clothes pins to attached the leading edge of the fabric to the front of the headboard, this let's you keep it straight so you don't wander. You will overlap the entire area with a minimum of 1 to 2 inches of fabric (your last step for glueing will be to flip the board over and glue the perimeter edges.Go slow, spray 6-10 inches of the board and fabric let it tack up so if you touch it strings form (1 -2 minutes)...super important not to rush the glueing.
After glue tacks begin in the rear view mirror area and work outward on both sides (keeps excess material in place for the depression areas)go slow. Then repeat glue process working from the middle out to both sides...as you get farther away from the front you may do a larger area at a time but be aware of the hardware areas (handles/domelights)if you don't do them well the fabric will pull away and look bad.Remove clips/pins from the front edge and glue.Repeat for the qtr panels. After 20 minutes, spray glue on the depression areas and corresponding headboard area, wait for them to tack then x cut with knife or scissors and press into place, careful not to cut to far but for the most part the hardware covers thes cuts. Remove the screws in the sunroof front edge, remove fabric, clean, then cut fabric for sunroof and glue front edge, then from the middle out to each side ( Bondo spreaders or plastic thin putty knifes are great for this because you can tuck everything in place easiliy. Make sure to redo the sunroof area first so that you do not get any glue on the new headliner material.Email with any questions.I can send pics of the ones I've done.
