The belts DON'T know or care how much torque the engine is making. All they know is how fast they are turning, & how much load is on the belt itself.

There's only 2 ways the belts can possibly 'learn' anything more...

1) If the engine mounts allow the engine to pitch much. Or if the actual acceleration is violent enough to push the alternator out of parallel with the engine. I can't imagine engine mounts being so bad that they would allow a pulley to rub the firewall!

2) If you are actually accelerating the car, the exact acceleration of the crankshaft is probably different, & hard to duplicate without a load.

If you truly can't duplicate it without the clutch, I'd be looking at the clutch. Pilot bearing or throw-out bearing. The pilot bearing is only spinning when the clutch is disengaged or slipping. The T/O bearing always spins, but it only carries a thrust load when the clutch is disengaged.

The clutch disk itself and the pressure plate is the only thing that knows or cares how much torque the engine is making.

You can eliminate half of these guesses if you locate the sound first.
