CE light causing no start?

1989 900 non-Turbo

It started out as a dead battery which seems to have evolved into more. The battery is new now but it won't start. It turns over, but won't start running. The CE light has been on for a while so when it gets warm it has been idle hunting. I replaced the plugs, rotor, dist cap, changed oil(what the hell, why not?), the O2 sensor isn't that old. I replaced the O2 sensor the 1st time the CE light came on - only to fing it was a loose AMM connection. I try but after a while it seems liek it might be flooding out. I followed the instructions in some other posts and checked all the vac hoses and even cleaned the AIC with carb cleaner. what could it be? Would a bad AMM or O2 sensor cause a poor start or fuel flooding?
