Yes, it does seem strange. Those Volvos run very well, and very long (especially the old 2.3L 8V iron block turbos), but it seems that every few years the rotors need replacement. I have the service records from the previous owner who had it from new to 60K miles, and there are two brake jobs in that period, all done at the dealer. Ouch! On my 9000, I've replaced the brakes once at 100K miles, and only as a precaution...

It could be just a coincidence that the rotors have been fine since the tire pressure problem was discovered. But the effect of the lower pressure was extremely noticable. When going down a hill, the car would almost take off flying, and my wife would really have to stand on the brakes to come to a stop. She commented on it several times until the pressure was corrected. Also, we've had two very mild winters, so not much running through frozen slush.

Other than the brakes, the car has been completely reliable and wonderful to travel in.
