Just finished swapping out almost everything except the engine compartment between and 88 and an 87, it went fairly easily. I think the 85 and 87 are pretty similar, most of the wiring diagrams are the same. If I remember though, the wiring for the instrument lighting is different (maybe just simpler) for the 85. Don't know if that means the physical configuration is different. Although, if you're going to be swapping out I'd suggest looking over a bentley at wiring schematics, it seems like the 87 had some good improvements in wiring at points. I own an 87 so email me if you've got any specific questions. I just ripped out the dash, ignition, basically everything in search of a short and I'd be happy to glance around for you while I'm poking around in there.
