Started to do the 150k service on my 91 900NA. Since I was going to replace the belts and the coolant, I figured I would attach the alternator bushings too. I had been reading up a lot on this board and actually the job was not that bad. Discovered that my brushes are getting very short so I will replace those too at the same time. A few questions though.
1) The only problem I had putting things back was with the new alternator belts. I could not get them over the pulleys. They gave me 10X975 whereas the old ones were 10X985. Which ones are the correct ones and am I doing something wrong.
2) The car has been using Prestone and I want to switch to the better stuff. I definitely saw some signs of corrosion around the thermostat when I replaced it. The head gasket had been replaced a long time ago due to a valve issue under warranty so I'm not too worried there. Question is, should I use a cleaning chemical before using the Mercedes stuff or just do a water flush. If a chemical, which one should I use?
3) The car has ABS and I will try to do the pressure bleed for the front calipers. The Bentley refers to instructions for the pressure bleeder but I made my own. I know that I should not go over 15 psi. Are there any other precautions I should take? Will this flush the fluid out of my master cylinder?
Again, without this board, I would have never dreamt of taking on this project. I feel I have made a big step by having done the alternator on the 900 myself. What's next? Engine removal.... Thanks in advance.
