I don't remember them saying which brand, but they've been using it in the cars they service for a while now, so I can't see that being an issue. I did ask what its boiling point was, thinking we may have simply boiled some lousy fluid, but they said they were using the same stuff they race with, so that shouldn't be an issue.
The symptoms are that when the car is driven on a hot day in heavy traffic the brake fluid and ABS lights both come on. The pedal will then get progressively mushier if I pump on it repeatedly (tested in the safety of my driveway one hot afternoon) until there is practically no brake at all (though when we've been driving, the brakes haven't failed, so the pump must be doing something...). The ABS pump seems to be happily buzzing along during all of this, but the lights never go off. If I turn the car off and let it sit for a while (as little as 10 minutes if I open the hood) everything is back to normal -- no troubles and the lights go off after 10-12 seconds, just like they always do (except the one time when I pumped the thing completely down and it took a bit longer, but never longer than, say, 25 seconds).
It's not the kind of thing I feel comfortable driving around with (or certainly not my wife driving around with), and if I can't fix it I don't evel feel comfortable selling the car (unless for parts) since I can't see knowingly selling someone a car that's a road hazard.
As I mentioned before, we've had the accumulator replaced and the system flushed at least twice, so I'm running out of options...
