Hey,

I sat up till 2am poring through the Bentley book, reading it nearly cover to cover. I like it for a lot of things, but after a while it seems really sparse - some items get zero coverage and others only get a page or two. It's really just a big set of tearsheets - minimal hints to get you into a job.

One thing I'd love to see is a big image map on some webserver showing the entire engine compartment. When your mouse is over something, it's name would pop up in a tool tip and when you click on it, you are taken to a mini-book with : 1) What it's called, what it is, what it does and what it's hooked up to 2) How to remove it, repair it and/or replace it 3) How to know when it is bad or find out 4) Gotcha's and sticky points to dealing with it (e.g., if it's an o2 sensor - don't drop it or it'll break). Now that would be helpful.

I really expected there to be a big diagram in Bentley naming all the stuff under the hood - you know, like those diagrams you get in a cell phone manual with the labels pointing to all the parts of the phone (like you need it with a phone - you sure do in a SAAB engine compartment). You know, so you can look at your engine, say "Hey what's this thing" and go to the book and find out. Sheesh - you'd think that would have been step one. They talk about the difference between 12 and 6-point box wrenches for chrissake.

So, does anyone know of any resource like this? Anyone want to help me put one together?

And just for kicks, here's the question I was trying to answer: "There is a pipe that sticks out of my head and is connected to a couple vacuum hoses that always pop off. What is this thing, why is it always wet and why do the hoses always pop off?"

Bentley was NO HELP AT ALL. (so far). The part isn't even depicted anywhere.

Thanks,
Chris
