There are plenty of articles about oil filters. Nines magazine (Saab Club of North America) had 2 articles during the past 2-3 years. One commented about the construction of different brands. Another was similar to information that is also presented in the AC Delco website for Ultraguard Gold.
There are some differences as far as pressure needed before the bypass valve opens. There are also differences in opinion if the bypass valve should be located at the back of the filter versus the screw in end.
Many have low opinions about the construction of Frams. Some like AC Delco Ultraguard Gold or Duraguard Silver. Purolator Pure One is rated by AC Delco (see website) as nearly as good as theirs. I used to use Mann filters (the original OEM, since replaced by AC Delco) when they were made in the large size. When the new 900's came out in 1993, the filter was made smaller because of tight spaces. The new filter then became the standard for the old Saabs (which I disagree - more filter material should be better than less).
To answer your question, I don't think the filter affects the pressure much though, according to AC Delco, some impede the pressure slightly (varies according to the make of filter).
