I just got off the phone with a sales guy at shox.com. The conversation ended when he asked me if I was going to order the shocks. I said "no" heard a click and the phone went dead. OKAYYYYYYYYYYYY!
My inquiries began with a quote for Koni Shocks. The price was $375.20 w/ free shipping. Can't beat that I thought. May as well order them. But wait a minute! On the bottom of the quote was the following:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Some unscrupulous distributors periodically run specials at or near their
cost or shop our prices and undercut them by a few dollars to temporarily
claim the "lowest prices". In these cases, if you provide us with the
CONTACT NAME AND PHONE NUMBER to confirm availability, we are happy to
match or beat the price. Most of these companies are not direct with the
manufacturers and will take your money but can't afford to deliver it in a
timely fashion. If there is ever a delay in our delivery, we will connect
you directly to the manufacturer to confirm availability dates.

Cool I thought. You never know...maybe I can save a few bucks...God knows this car costs a FORTUNE to maintain. Had I not seen this statement, I probably would have just ordered the shocks and not thought anymore of it. But...I went on Tirerack's site and they were selling the set for $356 + shipping. Wait a minute. I better phone and check if the price is valid. Sure enough it was. Hmmm...I thought. If I read Shox.com's lowest price policy correctly, they will meet or beat Tirerack's price as well as ship for free...SCORE!!!
I emailed back and forth a few times and gave Shox.com a contact name and number at Tirerack to confirm the price and availability. Your right, said Shox.xom, they are selling for that price but with shipping it would be $376.80, therefore with our free shipping, we are cheaper. Yeah I thought, that's true if you look at it that way, the total "shipped" price, but your policy doesn't mention product + shipping = lowest price. Shouldn't you either meet/beat the lowest price and then say "here you go and the shipping is free". Otherwise, maybe you should change the wording in your lowest price policy to state
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>"In these cases, if you provide us with the CONTACT NAME AND PHONE NUMBER to confirm availability, we are happy to match or beat the price {SHIPPED TO YOU DOOR}"???

According to the Salesman I was speaking to, he didn't know the exact wording of the claim, he's just a salesman. On top of that, the conversation went off on a tangent about how Tirerack isn't allowed to sell that low and how Shox.xom offers free shipping on Koni because they are not allowed to sell Koni below a certain price. Hey...I'm just John Q public. I don't know what shenanigans go on regarding pricing, etc. I just read and listen to what's put in front of me and make my decision.
Some will agree and some will disagree with my stand, but I think it's poor salesmanship to just hang up on a potential customer because I wasn't willing or BUY right then and there. I was polite and professional the whole time, but just received gobbledygook and a "click" on the phone line for my trouble.
At worst we could just agree to disagree, I'm OK with that. "No sir, you cannot get the shocks shipped to you for that price...we cannot go lower than $XX's. I'm sorry you read our policy that way, it is meant this way".
Maybe it's all just semantics?
NOT IMPRESSED WITH SHOX.COM!
