Loud subject lines never bothered me. My eyes just go into overload with a whole message-worth of it. ;-)
Check the splices on your sensor. I suspect that it's ok, but a look at it never hurts (while the engine is cool, that is :-). Also, check to see that it's firmly screwed into the elbow. When I originally installed mine, I left some twist in the wires - with all of the thermal flux, it nearly unscrewed itself halfway over the course of a year :-) We live and learn, eh?
It might also be that you have a bad AMM. I recently put a used AMM on my '89 that had "Flat spots" over the operating range. I finally chucked the thing when the output signal went out of range and sent the ECU into spasms when I drove faster than 80 MPH for an extended length of time. (There's nothing quite like losing power on I-285 around ATL during rush hour. Maaaan!)
It's possible that the bypass valve could contribute, but I don't think that it would give you the symptoms you describe unless there was something wrong with the clamp. It's worth checking.
Then there's all the usual tune-up stuff to check.
Let us know what you find.
Cheers
RS
