Spray the heck out of the Cat. Nuts with PB Blaster and use a snug fitting 6 point socket with a breaker bar to break them loose. It's a tight fit to get up to the top nuts, but the exhaust pipe should have some wiggle room to it. I'd strongly recommend Gary's suggestion for replacing the nuts bolts and lock washers with Stainless steel. I did not do that on mine, but after reading Gary's post, I'm going to go back and replace them this weekend.
The part that took the longest time for me was disconnecting the tailpipe from the muffler. A sawzall would have made this a 5 minute job. I only had a Dremmel with a cut-off wheel, so I unbolted the clamp, slid it out of the way, and extended the slits on the exhaust pipe to allow for easier loosening with a large screw driver. A lot of twisting and pulling, later, and I had it apart. A wire wheel on a dremel would be advised for cleaning up the flange face of the Cat Convrtr.
One last tip: Work from Back to front when loose-fitting up the new exhaust components. Get the tailpipe routed over the rear axle and hooked into the rubber boot. Bend open the hanger tabs on the Muffler, slip into the tailpipe and hang on the rubber boots, bending the tabs closed again once the boots are hooked. The slip the straight Exhaust pipe section onto the muffler inlet, raise the pipe into place and loosely bolt up the flange to the Cat Cnvrtr.
