leaking distributor making a mess!

The distributor on my 92 900 has an internal leak which weeps oil out the body of the distributor. The external "O" ring isnt leaking a drop and surprizingly the car runs great inspite of a steady ooze out the weep hole which happily dosnt make its way to the cap and rotor. Except for the mist of oil that seems to accumulate on all the leading edges behind the distributor no real noticable ill effects.I have read other posts that this is not unusual. Can anything be done to stop this leak aside from replacing the distributor. Is this leak a function of time in service or is it a hint of plugged breather system? Any comments appreciated tia jk
