You push the black cover on top of the two left screws that holds the HCV to the heatercore.
The foam cushion from Saab is a little bit thick when new, and I use to cut it in half before installing the valve, otherwise it's VERY difficult to get the 4 screws into the new valve.
From factory, the valve is already mounted on the heatercore when the whole dash goes in and therefore it's not a problem for them with the cushion.
It stops noises and draft going through the firewall.
