I'm not here much - so don't get mad if I dissapear. I've got an 95' Aero (65k), an 83'base8v w/a 90'big bearing trans(240k on car, 120k on trans) & maintain my bro's 84 8vturbo w/rblt erikson trans (180 on car, +- 50k on trans)BG syncro shift is in my 83 & 84 cars,.. The stuff works great, but I'm going to try MTL in my other brothers 92'T (just bought) which has a receintly (dealer) rblt. trany w/less than 10k on it,... (likely has 10w/30 barrel oil in it & shifting is a bit notchy). The trans in the Aero had 3rd gear syncro issues addressed under warranty 2 yrs/10k mi ago & I was told Saab synthetic trans oil was used - I did'nt know Saab made syn. trans oil, but it shifts smoothly. My Girlfriend has a 95'900s (170k)w/a shifting malady I'm told is likely a linkage problem - I plan to use MTL in her trans too (still fishing around to ensure good idea). OK - sorry, I
seem to have rambled on..........
I've heard the same things about Redline oil as you - extended oil change intervals, just change the filter, bla bla bla. Were I you, I'd use a Syn. oil that costs less & change it more often. Mobil 1 is around $4 a quart @ Wallmart, I use reg. $1.15 per quart Mobil in the old cars & a combo of 3 qts Mobil 1 & 2 qts reg mobil in my Aero (5qts of Mobil 1 causes a bit of leakage past the rear main seal). The redline is undoubtably better oil,...
but which would you rather spent your hard earned $ on when you have to dump the stuff so often? (I go 4k between changes - OE filter). Don't forget,.... IRA contributions are up to a $3000 max for 2002! Think ahead.
