Congrats on becoming a SAAB owner! I love my '88 900S. It has 174K on it. The obvious answer to your question is to make sure the fluids and belts and hoses are in good shape. I've seen some fairly nasty damage from torn belts, blown hoses, and low fluids. Also, keep you eye on leaks. They tend to make things much worse.

With proper care, your SAAB will take you a long way. But keep in mind that you will have to spend money on it from time to time as part of the normal upkeep. My wife gave me hell for replacing an exhaust system and steering rack in the same month. But, they were both due. The car has run so well for years that I forgot about having the occasional big repair.
