If jumping with a known good battery won't turn the engine over faster, your problem won't be fixed with a new battery.

Slow rotation during starting has at least two possible problems other than a bad battery (or poor connection).
1. Bad starter (includes bad solenoid but since you have to remove the starter to remove the solenoid, generally, just replace the starter with a rebuilt. On my 87 900T it really made a difference in starter speed....the engine spun right up.
2. Bad ground or battery cables. Corrosion gets into them at the cable tips or through worn or abraded cable covers and corrodes the conductor ør conductor/cable interface. Only real solution is replace the cables (Do a voltage drop test across the cable ør inspect it and if it looks corroded it probably is).

A voltage test is done by hooking up a voltmeter to the suspect cable, one lead at either end of the cable. Set the voltage scale at 0-12 or 0-2 if you have it....then disable the secondary ignition (ground the distributor center wire) and crank the engine over like you were starting it...you should see from 0 to .1 or .2 volt drop...any more and the cable is bad. I often see from .5 to 4 volts drop across cables that should have essentially zero resistance.
