Kevin & Todd,
I think I'm beginning to see the light now.
For years (I've had an '84 900S since 1995, on #2 now), I've battled this cold-only hesitation. I thought I had it licked once I stumbled onto the Townsend TSB information about three years ago on the red-tipped switch. I looked up a guy who was parting out an '86 with the red switch in SAABnet classifieds, installed that, and it helped immensely, both on my previous SAAB and also put it on this current one (both '84 900S, #1 is parts car now).
Now I understand more exactly what the black or red switch does and why SAAB's TSB wanted you to connect it to pin X1 of decel relay: to get Lambda lock-on at 60% modulation, i.e. instead of listening to O2 sensor output. I don't know why I didn't get it before! I knew what the decel relay did...
Well, I'll have to try that procedure, Kevin, and see what develops on my old 3-door. The hesitation usually came at the worst moment, like when I needed to pull out from a stop onto the main highway--when, of course, a car usually comes flying up behind me, out of nowhere. Hopefully, after the fix, it won't balk when I need zoom!
Thanks again,
Micah in NC
