Well three nights ago I was heading back from Wally World. When I was pulling into the school parking lot (left hand turn) I slid into a curb at about 15mph or so. I had the wheel completely turned to the left, and ABS was going, but just hit the curb and stopped dead. I was extremly pissed at the time...and still am kinda that I did somthing that stupid.
Next day I took car into alignment shop where I have it aligned 3 months prior. The alignment guy knows exactly what he is doing, and I trust him a lot. He took the car in for the day and called me in the evening and told me that I needed to come down. When I got there and the car was on the lift. He told me that he had the car shimed out the max on that side and there was nothing more that he could do to fix it. He then told me (and showed) that me thinks that the lower balljoint is bent (it looks like it some compared to the driver's side) and that the steering knuckle or spindle is probably bent. He also said that the control arms or the upper balljoint could be bent, but it does not appear to be. The rim was perfect, no scratches or dents!
Last night I drove out to Wheeling WV and picked up a used spindle assembely (knuckle, upper/lower balljoints, complete hub, rotor, caliper and pads) for $75.
I went today to have an estimate/schedule to have it installed at my regular mech. Well he was in the hospital and will not be working again for a month. Not good since I need to drive home to FL (from OH) in a week for Christmas break (1k one way). and I would like to get this all done before i head out. I got a rec for another one in town from him. Took it there and got estimate for $195 installed. They charge $80/hr for brining your own parts, $55 if not...what bullshit! Anyway it was my last resort to have this done. I would probably do it myself if I was at home, but seeing that I have finals this week, I have no time, simple as that.
So I am now asking what you think about the damage? He say that the a-arms seem to be ok, and that there are no fractures. What are some other pieces that I should look over to be sure that I nail it all at once? He was surprised that there was no rim damage, and that the lower spindle/balljoint bent rather than the control arms or other pieces.
Thanks for the help guys!
