All,
I'd really love to hear the skinny on this subject, too. I have also been in a frontal collision with my '90 SPG, in which the air bag deployed (SRS light had not ever illuminated). The reply from Sobstory on the laundry list of components which need to be replaced after an air bag deployment is the information the SAAB dealers use as a standard guideline when dealing with the subject. I could picture that the front sensors may be some sort of "one time" device, but I have a harder time picturing the SRS computer as also being a "one time" device. SAAB dealers want to both play it safe in regards to possible insurance liabilities by basically replacing every component in the SRS system ("everything is new, it has to work"), and they also want to scarf up the outrageous markup (easily cashed in on by referring to "manufacturer recommendation") on replacement components. No, I cannot dissect a Cray computer, but I find it hard to believe that there are components in the SRS computer which will fully function one time, and one time only. Have recently ordered a SAAB factory manual for the SRS system on my 900, and hope to find something a little more differentiated than "replace it all".
Would gladly welcome input from knowledgeable SAABers (George in Kansas City!?!?) about whether we are dealing with facts or myths.
