My two cents: from experience, you made some big mistakes here.
1) when you go anywhere, let along a med budget shop, you should do as much prep work as pos. This would at min, have been to remove the badges. (remember murphy's law?)
2) I always print out an instruction sheet, point by point, of what I expect and what to watch out for (without going overboard, it's a judgement call as to how thin-skinned and/or experienced the guy is), and make SURE the proper guy sees it. That includes referencing each ding with a number and diagram, or at min, circling them on the hood. I'd guess that's what happened with the color is that you gave him the code and somebody just assumed that was the code for the color on there already, decided to match the "aged" color to the rest of the car and just "instrument" read the color already on there. Maybe you made it clear to one guy and he handed it off, not making it clear to the hand-off guy.
'Course, no excuse anyway for shlock work like that, but WATCH OUT FOR MURPHY! The S.O.B. always seems to have more than one way of crashing a party.
