John,
My response included a quote from Townsend Imports instructions for doing a head gasket repair, which, obviously, includes a section on re-installing the valve cover gasket (this is a necessary procedure when doing a head gasket replacement). The specific section I quoted specifically details the procedure required to put the VALVE cover gasket back on the motor.
As for the torquing requirements, if 14-20 ft lbs is incorrect, your complaint is with Townsend, not me. However, that number sounds about right, as the torque required for bolts the exhaust manifold on is 18-20 ft lbs, which is using a steel bolt into the aluminum head. Are you sure the torque should be 14-20 inch pounds? Can you document that torque setting? (Also, are you sure that I don't know what I am talking about?)
