I have the parts to do both sides but was concentrating on the passenger's side because of the bad wheel bearing. As an update, I pulled the drive shaft back out tonite (remarkably easy when everything was apart and anti-seized less than 24 hrs ago)and I will be checking it very carefully tomorrow. I already pulled the outer CV off of the shaft and it seems fine, absolutely no slop, but yet very flexible and no notches or catches anywhere in its range. I also have looked closely at the tripod bearing, but cannot see anything wrong. The three wheel surfaces look immaculate, no dings or flat spots or scratches. All three turn easily.
If I yank up and down on the inner driver sticking out of the tranny, I get maybe 15 thousandths play total up and down. All of the driving surfaces in the inner driver feel good, and looked good 24 hrs ago when I had all of the grease out.
One other test I did which seemed interesting... With only the passenger's side of the car up in the air, and the car in gear with it running; I get a horrible vibration after 30-35 MPH with the wheel on, but it is almost not noticeable without the wheel on. Almost seems like the wheel isn't sitting flat on the brake disc, but I'm getting good contact on the hub all the way aroud. Also the disc can't be wobbling because it is running true inside of the brake caliper. HMMMMMMMMMM....
