If your head is an '87 engine head, I believe you have got plastic elbows that hold brass straws onto the head. I had them on my '86. When those plastic pieces break after about 10-15 years, they no longer can supply oil to the hydraulic lifters. That leads to a clickety clack like a machine gun. It gets slightly better when the car warms up. It costs about 20 bucks from the Saab dealer to get these plastic jobs and replace the old carbonized ones.
Is that clickerty clack machine gun sound that is worse with starting the problem you are experiencing now?
You worked on the car's head, so you might have broken one or pulled one free. Takes 20 minutes to pull off the valve cover and test each one for how firm it is held onto the head.
