The clip to my distributor was broken when I bought my '87 SPG, and it looked like someone tried to fix it with epoxy previously. It took me forever to get around to replace it, but I learned fairly quickly when or not I could depend on it the car running.

After a lot of rain (and a cold engine), my car would either not start (no spark), or it would reluctantly start after a lot of cranking - but then the engine would stall after about ten blocks and then wouldn't start again until it quit raining and/or let the car sit for about an hour. I also had the same situation where my car would seem to want to start as soon as the starter disengaged.

During humid weather, my engine would stumble often at sustained RPMs, and usually wouldn't go away even after the engine was hot.

The answer to you question is replace the plug - I did and the problem disappeared. I never changed the plugs, wires, coil, etc. Its a very cheap plastic part - search the BB to find the part #.
