since I paid almost 20 times as much for mine with more miles on it. Rust is certainly good to look for, and listen for pinion whine in the transmission, evident in 5th gear at highway speeds. Looks for oil leaks and power steering rack fluid leaks. Look at the alternator and see if it vibrates. Listen while turning for clacking that indicate the CV joints, and listen for thunks while going over bumps that indicate ball joints. Try to shake the front wheel while the car is on jacks to see if that is solid, or the center link is worn. Look at the exhaust system and listen for leaks there. Look at all the rubber hoses and replace them even if they look OK since they will let go anyway at the wrong time. This includes all the vacuum hose.
Once you have done all that you will have the same car I have for thousands less and I will kill you if my wife ever finds out.
