Most likely the dealer put in whatever he could get from the local oil distributor for the lowest cost.
Specs call for Type F automatic transmission fluid. Do NOT use Dexron or Mercon--only Type F.
Saab says do not use synthetic ATF. I've used AMSOIL synthetic ATF for the past 20 years without a problem--.
The AMSOIL Universal ATF meets a lot of specs, and works well in Saab automatics. If you want to be picky, they make a specific Type F fluid, too, called Super Shift.

Keep in mind that by draining the pan, you will only change about 1/3 the total fluid in the system.
While you are changing fluids, check the level of the final drive. And you might want to change out at least part of the power steering fluid, too.
