Is this an okay way to flush ATF?

I was at the local parts store today buying some Type-F ATF and spark plugs. I want to drain the ATF and replace it. The guy at the store mentioned that typically you can disconnect the ATF line from the radiator, run the car for a few seconds, and all the ATF fluid will come out. I know that the '88 900s has an ATF cooler on it. Can I just disconnect the foremost line from the cooler, put it in a pan, and run the engine for a few seconds? I'm assuming that this won't damage the car as long as I don't run it for more than 15 to 30 seconds, or however long it takes to pump the ATF out. Or is this gonna destroy something? Just draining the ATF pan from the plug leaves quite a bit in the system, and I want to get it all. Thanks for any help.
