Hi All,

I slid over a curb and ripped the front AT pan with the magnet in it off of the car and bent the engine support and the skid plate. The estimate includes a "recycled tranny" and is around $2500. The insurance company values the car at $2600 and after a couple of adjustments they'll give me a check fo $2200 or $2000 if I want to keep the car and get a Salvage Title.

Is there any way I can avoid the salvage title and still get the $$$? I don't know if the car's worth fixing, but I don't think I want to part it out yet. It's a clean 89' at 115K with lots of new parts on it. I'm the second owner and it seems a waste to scrap it.

Finally, I'm wondering if the tranny has to be pulled to fix it. I shut off the car the minute I realized what'd happened. The car won't go into gear no matter where the shift lever is . . . is this because there's NO fluid in it and the car's somehow smart enough to know this? . . . or is something massively broken on the inside of the tranny?

I've serviced the tranny and changed the fluid/band adjustments regularly, so before this things were otherwise good.

Maybe some of the pick-up tubes that go into the pan are bent. Is it possible that the tranny's inside parts are O.K. and that I just need to get the broken studs out from underneath and put a new pan on or should I forget it?

Thanks,
