working on them isn't too bad. Most everything is pretty easy to get at and I've only run into one `bastard bolt` so far. The performance of my 16v S isn't anything near the old '87 9kT but that isn't really a fair comparison. The 900 also seems to ride higher than the 9000 - something that's especially noticable on the highway - the 9k is much better for highway cruising.
Oh and the 900 shifting feels like stirring wet concrete with a shovel.
but damn does it ever look cool.
I'd be happy driving either car. My '88 900 is in exceptional condition - only a few rust bubbles that I alone know about. It is much easier to work on than the 9k - mostly because the engine is mounted inline (rather than transverse). The 900's climate controls are also more fun than the ACC on the 9k.
If you go looking be sure that you take the car on a long test drive - or take it on several test drives.
