OK, what started as a "fluke" a few weeks ago is now becoming a regular occurance on my '90 N/A.

What it does: while driving, the engine cuts out & the tach drops to 0. Sometimes it "catches" itself within a second or so & cuts back in with a very brief surge, sometimes it stays dead & I need to pull over to the side of the road & restart it (may restart immediately, may take a minute or two).

What I've done: replaced ignition wires; checked/regapped (.025) 5k mi-old BCP5ES; checked coil resistance; cleaned coil terminals; cleaned & checked 10k mi-old rotor resistance; cleaned AIC valve & 2-wire contacts (not too dirty, cleaned about 20k mi ago); cleaned TPS 3-wire contacts (one contact was really nasty, & after cleaning all the green scales off, the base of the terminal is only about 1/2 there).

When I R&R'd the TPS, the idle was a little high (about 1200rpm, normally about 800rpm) but would "kick down" with the accelerator to its normal range. I readjusted the TPS last night so I can hear the click when I release the throttle, & this morning the idle's back to normal. I also noticed that tightening the screws down on the TPS jams the throttle plate slightly against the far side of the throat. Backing the screws out until they're not-very-tight allows the plate to turn freely, so that's where they are now.

Can the coil check OK but still be bad? Will fouled AMM wires cause this cutoff/restart? Bad TPS or AIC (will check resistance on those tonight)? And can I damage the AIC's valve by holding it open to spray it out? EZK ECU problem? Other?
