It seems to be more chip-resistant than the front edge of my hood :o(
As an amateur myself, I can only tell you what worked for me-
"Paint" the lenses in multiple *very light* coats. Don't "hose" them down.
I did this in my backyard on a nice day. Use newspaper if you don't want wierd stains in your lawn. I prepped the lenses by washing them in the kitchen sink with dish detergent.
Each "coat" consisted of multiple overlapping stripes applied from a standing position- the nozzle was probably a little less than 2 feet away from the lens. I'd release the nozzle after each stripe, and paint them all from the same direction to avoid any zig-zag inconsistency. I think I used about 4 stripes, applied an very short quick bursts, then walked a third of the way around the lens, repeated the 4 stripes, and repeated the 4 again from a third direction.
3 coats worked well for me. I think I waited around 20 minutes between coats. Don't judge how dark they are until you put them back on your car- the difference isn't very obvious with bright daylight backlighting the lenses.
Remember- if you use too much, you'll be making your car LESS safe. The can states "This product for off-road use only". Speaking of the can, here's some other pertinent info:
