you will need to realign the shifter. Not a big deal, just a little more work and I must say i got tired of the pin too. The shop I worked at while in school could realign it by feel, I on the other hand take a longer route but it insures not grinding gears, which is always good.

----BEFORE INSTALLING THE GOOD DRIVETRAIN

remove the console, carpet and the plastic air duct to expose the shifter rod and ignition housing.

If it's an 85, you have an external centering spring (under side of the shift rod, just infront of the ign housing, 2 arms drop down the side of the rod and the spring connects them). most likely the spring is broken, if not REPLACE IT anyways. It's job is to always center the shifter, you need the shifter centered to align it. Anyway, you will see a guide hole around the outside of where the shifter itself bolts (3 bolts) to the ign housing. If you move the shifte back-n-forth you will notice a hole in the rod. Pin the 2 together (I use an allen wrench) and your shifter is now set to reverse. Now set gearbox to reverse which is all the way to the left and forward (right and back inside, left and forward outside). Now drop it in.

I don't know if your mixing and matching parts and years but I'll say it anyway's. Double check your linkage is the same as what came out (the part that had the clamp). I had an 86t, blew the gearbox. Had an 84 gb lying around. I was dropping it out the bottom and Since I take the route of undoing the clamp it was going to be an easy swap.... untill I realized the different sizes in linkages. Oh, and I noticed that when I was trying to cram that sucker up in there... DOH! As said, I don't know your intention's but just trying to save you from simple mistakes that can cost hours of time.

If you already knew that... oops, otherwise I hope this helps It works for me.

good luck,
Fish
