Nice write up Carl!
When re-tapping a hole, sometimes I find it usefull to begin by slowly turning the tap counter-clockwise...you may feel it 'drop' into the existing threads...then continue in the normal cw direction. This insures you're cleaning up the original threads and not cutting a second set of threads in the hole.
I would also use a stud instead of replacing the bolt....install the stud in the hole, and hold the t housing secure with a nut....if you ever need to remove the t housing again, you won't be stressing weak threads.
