Of course, Justin & ryan are both right. For me, it depends on whether I want "economy" or "performance." If it's "economy," then I'll typically shift around 2000-2500. Lower than that & my '90 base model starts to lug a little (depending on the gear I'm shifting into). For "performance," I'll generally shift between 3000-3500. Much higher than that & my N/A 16V engine just seems to be straining.
Of course, this is also the first car I've had wih a tach, so everything else I've owned has been shifted "by ear" & by tactile input. Just ignore the tach & keep working with it, & soon enough you'll get a feel for when the car wants/needs to be shifted.
