Try cleaning the throttle body and butterfly with carb spray and a toothbrush. Pay prticualr attention to a ridge of crud that can build up on the bore where the butterfly rests at idle.
Clean AIC valve with carb spray and finish with WD40. Make sure the shutter gizmo freely flops back and forth.
Check for vacuum leaks. If turbo, check that hooter valve holds vacuum from line to intake.
Re alternator, check short black ground wire from alt frame to block. You can get stalling and stutters if this is loose. Stalling problem is probably not your alternator. To check your alternator, connect a voltmeter across the battery terminals while the engine is running; you should see 13.5 volts or so. Same reading with engine off should be close to 12.6 volts (12.58 volts with digital meter).
