I'm looking into potentially buying a 1984 900T for a really good price given that its fuel pump has gone out. Was wondering about replacement costs and if it is a DIY job. I have extensive experience working on Z32 300zx Twin Turbos and various BMW's (my cars of choice), so if it something I don't need a lift for, I'd do it myself.
Also, are they any particular problem areas to look for in these cars? From the research I have done in the past 20 mins (lol!) the 8v's seems to be pretty robust motors and seem to last very long with decent maintence. The particular car in question has 119K miles and (from the ad) has a stragiht body, decent paint, recent clutch, and a nice radio :). I'll be on the lookout for oil and coolant leaks, but other than that; is the turbo reliable with a 119K miles? Are the trannys able to take a good amount of abuse?
My plan with this car is to make a run-around-town car and maybe even a fun autocross and track car. I've heard stories of friends raising boost to 18-19 psi and having a very capable track monster on their hands. I'm looking forward to see what this car can do!
Thanks in advance for all your help!
Drive Safely,
Raza
