early crankcase ventilation question - longish Posted by JohnT [Email] (#1654) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JohnT) on Thu, 3 Apr 2003 13:38:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have just finished putting a 1980 "B" turbo motor from a 900 into my 1980 99GLi.
On the n/a engine, the large crankcase vent hose goes to a nipple on the side of the intake manifold near the throttle valve. Exactly where does it go on the turbo setup? Should I add a nipple into the rubber bellows on top of the AMM or should it go upstream of the AMM, between the air filter and AMM? I will plug up the nipple on the side of the throttle valve.
Then there is the small hose which goes to a fitting on top of the intake manifold. I understand I need a new fitting with a check valve for the valve cover, right?
Right now I have the valve cover venting to atmosphere and both hoses plugged up so the turbo won't pressurize the crankcase. The motor runs a little rough and I'm thinking these hoses may be the cause.
Hope someone can help. If anyone has any photos that would be fantastic.
