C900 5 speed gear oil - good as gold!? (semi-long)

I've been having a frustrating time with my 87 900T as of the last week or so. Tried going on a long trip last weekend, only to have to turn around because of excessive vibration in drivetrain. Came home, replaced driver side inner driver, CV axle, and inner driver bearing (in housing) + seals and all that good stuff. The oil that came out was LOADED with brass, and a thimbul-ful of metal stuck on drain plug magnet. Changed new oil into gearbox and drove for 200 miles to 'flush out'. Changed gearbox oil again. Still more brass. Changed oil again. 150 miles more. And the attached link is what my gearbox oil looks like. How much brass is in one of these trannies!! I must have lost something major to not even be able to flush it out. Guess it's time to convert my extra 'good' transmission to use in the 87. Other than inner driver swap and adding external centering, any other things I'll need to do to make this work? I'm hoping to get a good start on it this weekend. Thanks for any help/comments.
Tom
p.s. Think it's worth it to send my 87 tranny out for a rebuild, or is it going to be a lose-lose situation?
