What external faults can fry an ECU? Posted by mag [Email] (#1906) [Profile/Gallery] (more from mag) on Sun, 27 Apr 2003 17:53:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
As a part of a future business, I'm considering loaning Saab Fuel injection ECUs on a "buy this if it fixes the problem" basis. This is a bad idea if the customer's car has a fault which frys ECUs.
=> What kinds of faults in a Saab 900 can damage the ECU?
The one I've been cautioned about so far is reversed battery polarity, which occurs when reversing the wires while energizing a dead battery from an external power source, or if the battery was hooked up backwards.
Any other gotchas?
(This question is also relevant to people who have just purchased a remanufactured unit and are about to install it themselves.)
thanks
