Thanks everyone for the replies.
Boy, you guys are a TOUGH CROWD! ;) (joke)
Anyway, I've thought about it quite a bit today as I checked in here from time to time to see what sort of replies I was getting. And I thought about how he answered my questions. After re-reading the e-mail a few times, I decided that I don't think he was trying to be rude.... that's just the way he is. AND I decided that the car is probably actually going to be a pretty good deal..... but for someone else. I think I was rushing things a bit. Although the price is good on this one (the reserve IS met, and it stands at $1,802.77), it's not really "THE" car I've been looking/waiting for. It's just a 'convenient' substitute.
I AM prepared to spend some money on my car when I do get it.... not a fortune of course, but I realize that these things are not 'spring chickens'. Things wear out. My problem is that I'm not a master mechanic. Oh, I've done a few things before.... my first car was a Chevy Camaro 350, and I replaced everything at the top end of it's motor. And on my '79 900T 5-door that I had, I replaced the head gasket, fuel lines, and TWO turbos. But replacing a tranny, steering rack, suspension parts... things like that I have neither the tool nor the knowledge to do, so I would have to PAY to have it done.
So maybe I should look for an example with fewer question marks, but with more dollar signs. (Uh, to a certain extent, at least.) After all, you get what you pay for!
There are a few on the TSN board that caught my eye over the last few weeks. I think it's time to send some e-mails. Traveling to see the cars first will still be nearly impossible, though.
Again, thanks for the comments and insight.... I look forward to getting to know some of you better.
Regards,
Glenn
