Spark Plugs -
get NGK's as recommended for each model. Where do you get your parts? One call to Sobstory could set you up with exactly what you need at a good price.
Ball Joints -
I'm in the middle of doing them on my 1990 SPG. I did them on my 1994 ragtop once. I say take that job to a mechanic, unless you have a spare car and lots of patience. This time I've employed a impact wrench, impact chisel, torch, cutting wheel/grinder, wrenches, chisels, sockets, and a hammer. The job is still not done, and it's quite frustrating. Take it to a pro, or be prepared to hate SAABs for a while. If you finish in 1 evening, you're a champ.
All that said, you can get a "pickle fork" for ball joint separation at probably any autoparts store. I bent mine doing the 1994 convertible ball joints, and they were a breeze compared to this 1990 SPG job. 4 extra years of rust to contend with, I guess.
CE Light -
Do you have a bentley manual? Can you get flash codes on a 1988? See the following site for starters:

Cheers,
Randy
