No, it'll NEVER be too thin at startup. But I thought you were sold on the 10W-30? What happened?
Because of the larger vis spread, yes, the 0W-40 does "break down" a little bit when compared to the M1 10W-30. But it's always going to be slightly heavier than the 10W-30, even after it "thins out."
Are you still running 5k mile change intervals? If it were my turbocharged car, I'd use either M1 0W-40 or 15W-50 (or a mix?). But, really, at these intervals ANY premium syn will provide the protection you're looking for.
