Easiest way to test for spark?

What is the easiest way for a novice to test for a spark. My '92 900 SE turns over but won't start. The tachometer raises slightly when I turn the key, but doesn't jump around or anything. I pulled the ignition amp. and took it to be tested, but even the SAAB shop here in town couldn't (or wouldn't) test it. I can buy a used one for about $50, but I want to make sure this is really the problem.
