Friends at Saabnet,
I need help with my conscience. The question is to keep the factory original Edwardian Grey or opt for a new (yet counterfeit) Monte Carlo Yellow. I need your opinions to help me make up my mind.
In the fall my beloved ’91 900 SE Convertible is going in the shop for some major work – rust at the left rear quarter and trunk; main engine seals, radiator, and motor mounts. After the rust work it will need repainting. Hence the color dilemna.
You might say, “If you want a yellow SE, buy one.” Problem one is the yellow ones always demand a premium. Second, I got this car for $5K with only 80K on it and it was in great shape except for the rust – no dash or seat cracks, etc. I still haven’t seen a better deal. Third, I have the car just how I want it – tweaked box to red box specs, new exhaust system, rebuilt calipers with ATE rotors and dustless pads, new vacuum brake hoses and it will get new bushings along with the motor mounts. Even did the radio for cup holder swap which works great BTW.
So there it is. Please weigh in – purists, customizers, performance geeks. I like my grey beauty, but I have this hankering for the Yellow va-va-va-voom. But remember, ain’t any more money than what I have to do the necessary work and the paint job. I don’t think I will find a yellow SE with 85K in the range of what I currently have in the $7,500 range.
Thanks for your opinions,
Doug D.
