You could send it off to a place called speedometers.com or find a used one & spin the dice to see how long it will last. A Saabmaster told me to never reset the trip odometer with the car in motion.
If you decide to replace the speedo, make sure the trip meter is positioned like your old one. Some are centered others are to the right. By putting a drill motor in reverse and placing it where the speedo cable goes you can test out the odometer function.
I fixed mine in two hours only to awake a couple other dash gremlins.
