Uneven Front Brake Wear, 85 SPG Posted by twells [Email] (#1632) [Profile/Gallery] (more from twells) on Mon, 14 Jul 2003 20:56:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hello, I have an 85 SPG with 253,000 miles on it. 11,000 miles ago, I replaced both the rotor and front brake caliper and yoke assembly with new (remanufactured?). I also recently replaced the right front caliper/yoke assembly. This was done at 242,000 miles. At 242,000 miles, I also replaced the brake pads with SAAB pads. Both assemblys, rotor, and pads were purchased from one of the reputable sponsors of this site. I bled the system and thought I wouldn't need to touch the brakes for sometime. System also worked well, no pulling to either right or left when breaking. Only thing was that you could hear the right front pad chaffing on the rotor occasionally. Now, the right front outer pad is down to metal, the right front inner pad has most of the pad remaining. I inspected the left front and found that both pads are still in good condition, but once again, the outer is wearing faster than the inner. I assume the caliper is getting hung up in the yoke and not sliding, but are there other possibilities? Anything I can do about the binding, if that is what is happening? Thanks,
Tim
