Noise from AC compressor

Once the AC gets cold, the compressor cycles on and off (about every 30 seconds, maybe longer at times). When the clutch engages, there is an annoying chirp, fairly loud. Belt is new & compressor works fine, though.
First, is the cycling proper, or am I over or underpressured?
Second, what causes the squeak and can I get rid of it (cheaply)? I sprayed some oil around the compressor (not too much), to no avail.
It's a 94 9002 conv.
